Resinous

Resins and balsams are among the most ancient components of perfumes and they span a wide variety of olfactory profiles. They are produced by trees in the form of crystalized resin and pair very well with woods, spices and flowers. 

Benzoin, peru balsam and tolu balsam can be very gentle, sweet and balsamic. Opoponax, frankincense/olibanum, myrrh, birch tar, elemi and styrax are much more potent, deeper and expressive.
