Mossy

Mossy fragrances mostly include notes such as oak moss, labdanum, patchouli and bergamot - the so called Chypre fragrance family. This olfactive group was named after perfume Coty Chypre created in 1917. Chypre is the French name for the island of Cyprus, birthplace of Venus, the legendary goddess of love.

Oak moss is also an essential part of Fougere fragrances. It is mostly produced in the Balkans, including Macedonia and Bulgaria, as well as Morocco. For the past 20 years, the use of real oak moss has been very limited in quantity in perfumes, because of it's allergenic properties (it is limited to 0.1%), which led to the development of synthetic and natural substitutes.
