Opoponax, also known as sweet myrrh, is a resin derived from the Commiphora erythraea thees, which grow Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Middle East. It is grown in the wild, and it produces natural gum-resin a few weeks after the tree bark is incised. This unique ingredient has been used for centuries in various cultures for its aromatic and therapeutic properties. In the world of perfumery, opoponax is cherished for its warm, balsamic scent, making it a valuable component in many fragrance compositions. It is alsov used in the production of incense, potpourri, and essential oils for aromatherapy.
The word opoponax is derived from the Greek words "opos" (juice) and "panax" (panacea), alluding to its historical use as a healing remedy. It has been used in traditional medicine for centuries to treat various ailments, including digestive issues, respiratory problems, and skin conditions.

Opoponax has a complex fragrance profile that is often described as:
Balsamic: The resin exudes a rich, sweet, and slightly woody aroma.
